I've had pain for a long time and I had PT before and it just made me worse. How do I know this will help?

First of all, we are sorry to hear that physical therapy did not work for you in the past and we are happy that you are considering working with us given your past experience. Unlike many other therapists, Dr. Megan specializes in helping individuals with chronic pain and other nerve related pain and has specialized training in these areas. She would love to talk with you more prior to scheduling to fully understand your concerns and make sure she is the right fit to help you.

My pain is really bad today. Should I still make/keep my appointment?

Yes! It is so important that you keep your appointments on days where your pain is worse so we can help figure out why it is worse, help you reduce your pain, and create a plan to relieve your pain moving forward. We recommend this whether this is your first visit, or we've seen you for several visits already. We will modify your treatment session based on how you're feeling now.

What happens during our appointment in person?

Before scheduling we will start with a 10-15 minute phone consultation to make sure we are a great fit to help you reach your goals.

We will then send you paperwork to complete. During the appointment, we will bring all necessary equipment.

We will start by talking about your current symptoms and doing a movement assessment as well as other assessments to get to the root cause of. your pain or injury.

We will get into treatment the same day with hands on treatment, exercise, or both!

We will then discuss a plan of care based on your assessment.

What is a telehealth appointment and what do we do?

Telehealth physical therapy is a great option for individuals in Arizona who live outside of our treatment radius. To participate in a telehealth session you will need internet access with access to Zoom, a webcam on your phone or computer for the video conference, space to move around during assessment and treatment, and a way to prop up your phone or computer to show movement.

You will receive our evaluation accelerator form and consent form that must be completed prior to our session.

Here's what a telehealth session looks like:

• We meet via zoom and we talk more about what you're experiencing in terms of pain, movement, or injury and your goals for your therapy session.

• I walk you through a movement screen and assessment (very similar to how I do this in person)

• I explain my findings during the exam and walk you through stretches, exercises, etc to do to reduce pain and improve the way you are moving to help you reach your goals.

• We discuss how to modify things you are doing day to day to help you relieve pain and prevent further discomfort

• We discuss a plan moving forward whether that is more sessions, continuing with your exercise program independently, or taking another course of action - I give you a written copy of my notes from the session as well as a handout of the exercises we discussed.

These appointments can be scheduled via phone call at 480-530-7488 or via our online booking portal. Please note that payment is taken at time of booking when booking online.

How many appointments do I need?

While this varies for every patient, a typical plan of care ranges from 6-10 visits. Most patients will experience relief after 2-3 sessions, BUT we don't want to stop there. We want to make sure your pain goes away AND we keep it from coming back when you do the daily activities you want and need to do.

We typically schedule visits 1x/week to allow you time to focus on your home program. During your appointments, we will continue with any needed hands-on treatment and keep progressing your program to help you meet your goals.

Do I need to have x-rays or an MRI prior to my appointment?

No, you do not need to have imaging prior to your appointment. As physical therapists, we focus on helping you relieve pain and move better regardless of imaging results. For more information on how we can help you without having your imaging results, check out our blog post!
